Visit Yala National Park

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yala_National_Park

Tissamaharama (Tissa) is the easiest place from which to arrange tours of Yala National Park. It is 18 km to the park office. The easiest thing to do is to arrange a safari through your accommodation. You can also go to the gathering of safari touts in the Independent Jeep Association car park on the edge of Tissa Wewa. Despite the initial hassles, many of the guys who gather there are actually very knowledgeable about wildlife and genuinely concerned about making sure you have a good safari.

Most safari touts open negotiations at Rs 4500 per jeep for half-day safari for up to four people. Park fee not included.

Best to negotiate a final price just before the 6:30 pm deadline the night before. (I don't know if this is true, but it was explained to us that the park has to know how many to expect the night before.)

Ask for Nalin, he is a great guide and will show you the leopards from as close as possible.

The competition for safaris is intense. Do your homework and decide if you want a "luxury" ( seats facing forward) or an ordinary ( sideways bench seats) jeep. Check how many hours you will spend in the park. Most animals have gone by 10 am anyway. Evening safaris seemed a fair choice, too, but your first few hours won't be good pickings until dusk starts to descend.

1 SEK = 16,5 Sri Lanka Ruppes

Rs 4000 - 4500 for half day safari up to four people (Lonely Planet 2009) + park fee.

Rs 4500 = 272 SEK usually drops quickly to Rs 4000 = 250 SEK

Activity: Bundala NP

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bundala_National_Park

Unlike Yala, Bundala is open year-round. Access is easiest from Tissamaharama and Kirinda.

The main road east of Hambantota passes along Bundala’s northern boundary, but it was severely damaged by the tsunami, and access was difficult. On the road to Tissamaharama look for the parking area near the signposted entrance to the park. You will usually see some guides and drivers there. A four-hour, five-person 4WD trip costs a negotiable Rs 2500, plus the entry fees. ( Mars 2009 )

( Rs 2500 = 151 SEK + park fee )
