Flights ( 3 nights, Thursday => Sunday )

Travel Help recommends you to use www.reseguiden.se when you are planning your flights for a long-weekend in Europe. Use the +/- 3 days menu and fetch all flight costs. Some costs for weekend departures are missing which seems to be a program error. Most likely you want to travel before Saturday and Sunday and in such a case this error has minor importance. An overview of all costs for different departure and return dates immediately gives you information about which travel dates you should avoid due to high flight costs. You also get an indication of which travel dates have the lowest costs, especially if some low cost air companies only fly on some week days.

The example below was for 2012 and the search was done on 2012-02-23 for flights from Gothenburg. Book your flights as early as possible to get the lowest prices. You should book your flights before Christmas if you want the absolute best flight prices for the next year.

Flight (KLM) on Thursday: Gothenburg/Landvetter 12:10 => Amsterdam 13:40

Flight (KLM) on Sunday: Amsterdam 12:05 => Gothenburg/Landvetter 13:35

The price in this example is 1.931 SEK on 2012-02-23 for flights in July.

You can use http://www.klm.com for direct flights with KLM. Below are examples from 2011.

The flight cost was in this example 2.413 SEK.

Transfer between airport and hostel

Train: Schiphol Airport => Amsterdam Central Station ( 40 SEK? )

http://www.schiphol.com/

Schiphol station is situated directly below the airport. You can pick up a free baggage trolley from the platform. Via Schiphol Plaza, you can walk straight to the departure or arrival hall. Train tickets for domestic travel are available from the yellow ticket machines near the platforms at Schiphol Plaza. Tickets (for domestic and international travel) are also available from the ticket offices, which are situated close to the red/white-checked cube at Schiphol Plaza.

Incidentally, did you know that you can also purchase your train ticket well in advance? You can either buy one from a ticket machine or ask for a ticket without a date at one of the NS-service desks. It is possible to do so for both the outward and return journey. All you have to do on the day of travel is stamp your ticket at a machine on one of the platforms.

It takes 15 minutes from the airport to Amsterdam train station.

"I bought two tickets for both ways, 3.60 euros each. The man who sold them told me that I could find the train number 2 to Amsterdam downstairs. I went down and caught it just in time.

Nobody checked the ticket and I didn't stamp it.

The central station in Amsterdam was the third station. Almost everyone left the train but some people remained so it wasn't the last station."

Tram: Amsterdam Central Station => Prinsengracht tram stop ( 20 SEK? )

From Central Station take tram number 1,2 or 5, get out at the 6th Stop (Prinsengracht).

I followed a sign indicating that the centre was to the left and found the trams just outside the station building. I had to cross the road to get to the house where they sold tickets for the tram. I bought a one-way ticket for 1.60 euro which they stamped directly and it was then valid for one hour.

A little bit to the right outside the railway building I found the tram stop for line number 1, 2 and 5 which I had been told by the hostel to use. I went to the 6th stop which was Prinsengracht and found the hostel called "International Budget Hostel" not far away.

Walk: Prinsengracht tram stop => Hostel

Turn to the right on the bridge, the next bridge is leidsegracht, the hostel is on your left

Getting around

Walking

Nightlife

The location of the hostel or hotel is very important. The ideal location is of course within walking distance to nightlife, close to tourist attractions, close to shopping, close to the beach and easy to reach from the airport. Many times you have to prioritize since there are no hostels or hotels with high ratings which are close to all of them. Travel Help prioritize high rating hostels which are within walking distance to nightlife. The reason is of course that during the day you can always travel by bus or subway. After midnight you usually have to walk or take an expensive taxi.

Extensive information about nightlife areas and nightclubs will be published here in the future. You will have a map where you can see the locations of all the interesting places, addresses to the good nightclubs with a little information about each of them. We will inform you about the clubs which are most popular and also some information about clubs for people over 30. Nightclubs open and close and it is therefore difficult to have all information up to date. You will therefore get web addresses to the clubs so you can check if they still are alive.

While waiting for the information to be published here you have to find it yourself on Internet. Search for ‘cityname’ and ‘nightlife’ on www.google.com. www.salsapower.com has the best information about salsa dance clubs.
