Travel Help recommends you to use www.reseguiden.se when you are planning your flights for a long-weekend in Europe. Use the +/- 3 days menu and fetch all flight costs. Some costs for weekend departures are missing which seems to be a program error. Most likely you want to travel before Saturday and Sunday and in such a case this error has minor importance. An overview of all costs for different departure and return dates immediately gives you information about which travel dates you should avoid due to high flight costs. You also get an indication of which travel dates have the lowest costs, especially if some low cost air companies only fly on some week days.
The example below was for 2012 and the search was done on 2012-02-23 for flights from Gothenburg. Book your flights as early as possible to get the lowest prices. You should book your flights before Christmas if you want the absolute best flight prices for the next year.
Flight (Ryanair) on Wednesday: Gothenburg/City Airport 13:30 => Rome/Ciampino 16:25
Flight (Ryanair) on Monday: Rome/Ciampino 10:00 => Gothenburg/City Airport 13:05
The price in this example is 1.138 SEK + additional fees on 2012-02-23 for flights in July.

“Ferrovie dello Stato” (FS) set up two connections to reach the international airport of Fiumicino:
a direct connection with Termini railway station and a connection by metro. The Rome-Fiumicino service departing from Termini railway station takes about 30 minutes to reach the airport without intermediate stops. The cost is 14 euros;
as an alternative it is possible to take Sabina-Fiumicino line (FM1) which stops in some of the main Roman railway stations (Tiburtina, Tuscolana, Ostiense, Trastevere) usually every 15 minutes, and on holidays, every 30 minutes. The cost is 8 euros.
To check the times, visit the web site: www.ferroviedellostato.it
Fiumicino airport can be reached by different bus lines.
The connection with the domestic and international arrivals is carried out by COTRAL buses which leave from Roma Tiburtina railway station and stop at Piazza dei Cinquecento in front of Roma Termini railway station. The tickets can be bought directly in the bus.
The other COTRAL connections with the
airport leave from Cornelia station of the metro Line A and from Eur-Magliana
Station of Line B.
To consult the list of the stops and for further information, go the web site http://www.cotralspa.it.

Almost all hostels with high ratings seem to be located in the same area at a walking distance close to the terminal.

Once you're in the center, you are best off on foot.
If you'll be staying in Rome for at least 3 days, consider purchasing the Roma Pass, www.romapass.it. The cost is €25 and entitles holders to free admission to the first two museums and/or archaeological sites visited, full access to the public transport system, reduced tickets and discounts for any other following museums and sites visited, as well as exhibitions, music events, theatrical and dance performances and all other tourist services.
There are two metro lines, crossing at Termini station. Line A (red line) runs northwest past the Vatican, and southeast. Line B (Blue Line) runs southwest past the Colosseum and northeast. Line A usually stops running at 11PM. On Fridays and Saturdays the last trains of Line B leave from the stations at 1:30AM and the line closes at 2AM to re-open at 5.00. The Metro is the most punctual form of public transportation in Rome, but it can get extremely crowded during rush hour.
